ENG - International Culture Week 2015 ~ New Zealand (An Overview)
This year, we put together a series of events and activities highlighting New Zealand culture in our annual International Culture Week (20/04- 24/04/15).
We celebrated the culture of this beautiful country by learning how to
play rugby, which forms the sporting backbone of New Zealand. Kiwis are indeed proud and passionate rugby fans. The next event in our IC Week involved teachers and students joining force to prepare delicious pikelets for the cooking competition on the second day.
How can we talk about New Zealand culture without the haka dance? A haka is a traditional ancestral war cry, dance, or challenge from the Māori people of New Zealand. It was great fun to see the whole school performing haka in the volleyball court under the guidance of our special guests from New Zealand.
Finally, the culminating event arrived on the last day. STCC made bold attempts to imitate the world renowned New Zealand WOW (World of WearableArt) by organizing our own fashion competition. Like WOW, the participants must come up with their own fashion ideas with a twist. They had to use recyclable materials for their designs to promote the philosophy of preserving our environment.
Like the previous years, the English Department was excited to organize another culture week so that the whole school could come to know and celebrate different cultures in the world!
